A north-east cancer support charity is appealing for people to come together and take part in its Mothers Day sponsored walk.
CLAN Cancer Support will host the special event at Aberdeen’s Westburn Park on Sunday, March 10 from 10 am to noon.
The charity is urging families, friends and individuals to take part in memory of a loved one on a day that is close to many people’s hearts.
The route around Westburn Park, situated close to the charity’s own CLAN House headquarters, is approximately 1km long and can be lapped as many times as an individual chooses.
The event, now in its fourth year, is inspired by Macduff woman Marjorie Nicholson, who organised a sponsored walk after losing her son to cancer on Mothers Day in 2007.
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “Now in its fourth year, the Mothers Day event has gone from strength to strength, with people taking up the opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one by participating in the walk.
“We are indebted to the inspiration provided by Marjorie as she has undoubtedly helped to turn Mothers Day into a positive experience for a number of people who perhaps used to look upon it with a sense of trepidation.
“We are encouraging people, whether it is a mother who has lost a child or a child or dad who has lost a mother, to come and take part in the walk and celebrate the fond memories that they hold of their family members.”
Registration for the walk is £5 and should be completed prior to the event. Children may walk for free but must be accompanied by an adult. For more details and to register, please contact Moureen Wilson on 01224 647000 or firstname.lastname@example.org
