Suzanne's Story

Suzanne edited V2

Suzanne was just 35 years old when she received the devastating diagnosis of a brain tumour. CLAN has been there to support Suzanne and her family every step of the way. From initial diagnosis, during treatment, and adjusting to the challenges her diagnosis has presented; we have been right there by their side.

Every year, CLAN supports over 2,500 people across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland as they go through their own unique cancer journey, offering free emotional and practical support services that help to improve the quality of life of all those who turn to us in their time of need. Our network of “CLAN in the community” bases offers a lifeline to many rural and isolated communities. We simply couldn’t do it without the support of those who donate to us.

"When we were first given the heart-breaking news of my diagnosis and timescale, we were in tears and so shocked that we just didn’t know what to do with ourselves.

When we remembered what CLAN do, not only for cancer patients, but for their families, we immediately visited them.

Along with my husband Owen, sister Kelly and my parents Keith and Maureen, I visited CLAN House the same day as my devastating news. Since then, my family have been able to access the many services offered by CLAN.

Our children Max and Lauren, who were too young to fully understand the impact of the news, were able to learn and understand in their own way, thanks to the Children and Families team, who visited them at school and provided support in an environment they knew.

CLAN were our saviour that first day and continue to be our crutch." (Suzanne)
