A leading north-east cancer support charity is hosting an open evening for anyone who would like to find out more about volunteering with the organisation.
CLAN Cancer Support is opening its Banchory base on Thursday, 25th May, between 4.30pm – 6.30pm and is inviting people from the local area to come along and find out how their skills and time can make a difference to people affected by cancer.
Based at Posties Walk in the heart of Banchory, the charity offers wellbeing and support services for anyone affected by cancer. Within the space CLAN now provides support, information and signposting to organisations as well as complementary therapies and cancer specific support groups.
The charity offers a range of volunteering opportunities, from support volunteers who provide support, information and signposting to various services within CLAN to anyone dropping into the centre, to event and fundraising volunteers who provide vital support in raising both funds and awareness of CLAN’s community based services.
Iona Mitchell, Head of Cancer Support Services at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “Volunteering might be something that you have never considered, or may not have had the opportunity to previously commit to. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and provide us with a wide range of skills and attributes.
“At our open evening visitors can find out about the wide range of opportunities available through volunteering with CLAN, which can include using skills people may have gained through other areas of work or their hobbies.
“Volunteers are a crucial part of CLAN and without our dedicated teams, we wouldn’t be able to provide the range of free cancer support services needed in the heart of local communities. No matter how much time you think you could give CLAN, or your previous experience, I would urge anyone to come along to our evening, meet our team and find out more.”
CLAN Banchory is open every Thursday from 10am to 4pm, and fortnightly on Friday afternoons. The charity also shares the base with Citizen’s Advice Bureau. CLAN also provides information and support at its Ballater wellbeing & support centre and shop.
