Volunteering at CLAN

Did you know that CLAN relies on special
people called 'Volunteers'?
CLAN could not provide the services it does
without them...or without...

YOU!

Whatever stage you are at in life,
volunteering is a great opportunity to:

Do something interesting and worthwhile
Meet new people
Utilise talents and experience
Learn new skills

'I have only been involved for a few months but already I have great new friends and have been doing all sorts of things I never expected to.'

'Doing something useful has made a huge difference to me.  I feel much better and do so much more in general.'

'CLAN is a wonderful place to help at.'

What volunteer roles are available?

  • Shop Volunteers
are always needed at our Rosemount Place and Chapel Street shops in Aberdeen
  • Support Volunteers
Volunteers are required at the centre in Aberdeen Monday to Saturday to work three hours shifts meeting, greeting and supporting clients who are attending appointments or visiting CLAN for the first time.

What training will I get?

All Volunteers receive a CLAN Induction and Shop Volunteers are then trained 'on the job' in the shops.

Support Volunteers attend a compulsory COSCA* validated in-house training over four weekends.  The training involves assessment and not all trainees who complete the course will be asked to become support volunteers.

(*COSCA is Scotland's professional body for counselling and psychotherapy)

'I was concerned and a bit nervous about the training but really enjoyed it.  Everyone was in the same boat and we were put at our ease and the need for training clearly explained to us'.

What support will I get?

  • Our Volunteer Manager is always available
  • We hold monthly meetings for updates, news and development
  • Regular group supervision takes place
  • One to one support and supervision is available from qualified counsellors
  • You have the back-up of an established organisation and Board of Directors...
  • ...and social events for fun and friendship
