FAQ

If there are any questions you would like to see answered here please contact the Centre.

What does CLAN mean when it refers to a holistic approach?
A holistic approach means looking after the whole person.  We can help you with the physical, emotional and spiritual as well as the practical issues that arise when cancer enters your life, whether it is you personally or a loved one who is diagnosed.  Read about the services that we offer to find out how we can help.

What is a support group?
People in groups derive a great deal of mutual support from talking to each other and sharing experience.  Many people who join initially for help and support, find that they remain in the group using their experiences to help others.  Each support group is different in the way that it runs.  Most meet regularly and undertake a variety of activities, such as inviting speakers and running social events.  Most groups are non-cancer specific and are open to anyone affected by cancer.  Others may be cancer specific, e.g. PINK, a support group for those affected by women's cancers.

Where can I find details about local support groups?
The Cancer Information website http://www.cancerservices.info has a list of local support groups within Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.

Alternatively the Macmillan Cancer Relief website (http://www.macmillan.org.uk/) has a searchable database of groups throughout the UK.

I have a pre-cancerous condition. Can I use the CLAN services?
Yes.  You will have some similar issues to those with cancer, which CLAN can help you with.

I have a benign tumour.  Can I use CLAN services?
Certain benign tumours have similar issues as those with malignant tumours.  If you fall into this category then you will have access to all CLAN services.  If you are unsure please contact us.  Should you not fall into the above category you can still have access to our information service.

Can I have complementary therapies while I am undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy treatment?
Yes.  All the therapies offered at CLAN House are helpful in promoting a sense of wellbeing and encourage the body back into a more balanced state.  All therapies are non-invasive and fully complement any other treatment you may be having.  We do suggest, however, that you inform your GP/Consultant of any therapies that you are having.  See our Health & Wellbeing page for more details.

My partner has cancer.  Can I use CLAN services?
Yes.  CLAN is for anybody affected by cancer, whether they are the patient, carer, family or close friend.

How much does CLAN cost?
There are no charges for our support services, but a donation towards the cost is welcomed.
A minimum donation is requested for CLAN Haven accommodation and use of our Holiday Home to cover our costs.
